Safeguarding

At our school safeguarding encompasses child protection, safer recruitment, managing allegations against member of staff as well our approach to the Team Around the Child process.

It is also supported by our approach to behaviour management, our response to managing bullying, our response to care and control, our response to children who are absent from school and our health and safety procedures.

These are documented in separate policies, which refer to our approach when dealing with negative impact of technology upon children’s well being where this is relevant.

Throughout our work we have a clear commitment to supporting families. We aim to work well in partnership with parents/carers and any other appropriate agencies to promote the welfare of our children.

Safeguarding - Child Sexual Exploitation

As you may have seen in the media, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) has recently warned of a concerning increase in sexual offending on the internet involving webcams.

CEOP have investigated a number of cases in which offenders have used webcams to abuse children. To help raise awareness CEOP have put together factsheets and resources for parents, professionals and young people. For more information please see related link below, CEOP Thinkuknow website.

Share Aware is a campaign developed by the NSPCC for parents of children aged 8-12 years. For further information please see related link below.

Operation Encompass

Operation Encompass is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to

domestic abuse.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.

The information is given in strict confidence to a school’s Key Adults to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child. The Key Adults at St Ambrose Primary School are:

Mrs Hilton (headteacher / designated safeguarding lead)

Mrs Knight(deputy headteacher / deputy designated safeguarding lead)

Chris Conley (Learning mentor).

SQUID GAME - A MESSAGE FROM THE STOCKPORT SAFEGUARDING TEAM

The SQUID Game

A note from our Safeguarding team

We have been approached by some of you regarding the Netflix show Squid Game. Squid Game is currently one of the most popular shows on Netflix and has a rating of age 15 and above.

The programme centres around a series of children’s games that have deadly consequence, and is very violent in nature.

We understand that there is other adult content and despite its initial appearance it is not suitable for younger children .

The BBFC have awarded Squid Game a 15 rating in the UK for “sexual violence references, injury detail, crude humour, sex, suicide, sexual images, violence. This is very different from the 12a rating which allows younger viewers if they are supported by a parent or other guardian. The 15 rating states that the material is “suitable only for 15 years and over” with no concession for accompanying adults”

Parents can apply parental controls to Netflix by setting up a Netflix children’s profile, this limits viewing to TV shows and movies which have been carefully selected for children.

To do this:

  1. Go to Netflix.com/account.

  2. Scroll to 'Profile & Parental Controls 'and click on the profile you want to manage.

  3. Click 'Change' next to the Viewing Restrictions setting.

  4. Enter your Netflix password.

  5. Set the maturity rating for the programmes and films you want to allow in that profile

We understand that there is also some playable content available on gaming platforms, but we are unsure of the content and age certification, as with all gaming we would recommend parents review the contents and age ratings.

Please free to contact us if you have any questions.

Kind regards
