PE Action plan 2016 - 17

Primary School’s Sports Funding

This year every school has received additional funding for PE from the government as a result of the Olympic legacy.  We are using the funding to enhance our P.E. curriculum, to promote a healthy and active lifestyle, and to strengthen and extend our sporting community links.  It has also enabled us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports professionals, entering into more competitive sports competitions and training our staff to deliver in-house quality PE sessions.

What is the Sports Premium?

The government has provided sports funding over the last few years and will continue into 2016-17. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and has seen money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children.  Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year - here at St Ambrose that will mean around £8,790 this year. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

What is the purpose of the funding?

Schools have had to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they have had the freedom to choose how they do this.

How has St Ambrose utilised the Sports funding?

This year St Ambrose has split the funding between Stockport School’s Sport Partnership(SSSP), Kerry Axon Gymnastics, Wake up and Shake up and Premier Sports.

SSSP:

The Stockport Schools Sports Partnership has worked alongside class teachers to deliver high quality PE sessions to all year groups. This time has been split equally across the school year groups and has covered all PE topics.

Staff have also developed their PE skills through training.

Premier Sport:

The specialist sports coaches have worked after school with the children on a number of clubs targeting specific age groups (KS1, KS2) each half term.

Kerry Axon:

Kerry has been running 10 week gymnastics sessions for the children in KS1 and KS2 over the year. This year the children who take part are now at a level where they are able to complete their BAGA gymnastics awards.

Wake up & Shake up:

Sasha comes to school twice a week from 8:20am until 8:55am to take the wake up and shake up class. This class is quite well attended by both boys and girls.

St Ambrose awarded over £28,000 of funding from Sport England!

Finally the grant we won for improvements on the KS2 playground has been put to full use and the improvements made. There is now multipurpose area where the children can play a multitude of different games in a fenced area to ensure those who don’t want to join in still have room to play.

School added money to this scheme to install a shelter for spectators too.

St Ambrose awarded over £28,000 of funding from Sport England!

St Ambrose is among 324 local sports projects to secure a share of £17 million of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Since 2011, Inspired Facilities has been helping breathe new life into tired community sports facilities and converting existing buildings into venues suitable for grassroots sport.

St Ambrose will receive £28,355 of National Lottery funding to upgrade the outdoor sporting facilities on the junior playground. The improvements include an outdoor multi-sport area and activity track.

Sport England Property Director, Charles Johnston, said: “The Inspired Facilities Fund has had a huge impact on grassroots sport across the country. Since 2011, we’ve invested £88 million into more than 1,600 projects to improve and refurbish sports clubs and transform non-sporting venues into vibrant community sports clubs.

“It’s great to see St Ambrose join the long list of successful clubs to benefit from this fund.”
