Year 5

Welcome to Year 5.

This half term we are learning:

Maths:

For the whole of this term we are focusing upon decimals.  

  • adding decimals with the same number of decimal places
  • subtracting decimals with the same number of decimal places
  • adding and subtracting decimals with a different number of decimal places
  • adding and subtracting wholes and decimals
  • decimals and sequences
  • multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000
  • dividing by 10, 100 and 1000

English:

  • Weeks 1 - 2:  Newspaper reports - we will be writing a report on the Daredevil, Annie Edson Taylor
  • Weeks 3 - 5:  Quest stories linked to the picture book 'Journey'

RE:  Life in the Risen Christ

  • To know that Jesus is risen from the dead.  To reflect on what the resurrection of Jesus means for us.
  •  To understand the meaning of the Resurrection.  To reflect on the importance of the Resurrection for us.
  • To know that the Spirit of Jesus works in many ways.   To reflect on the Spirit at work in the Church.

  • To know that Jesus is present among us in different ways.  To reflect on how we can be present with Jesus.

  • To know that there are different ways of praying.  To explore different ways of praying.

  • To understand how Jesus teaches us to pray.  To reflect on the importance of prayer for us.

It is our class assembly on Wednesday 8th May at 9.10 in the school hall.

Other Subjects:

Science:  Animals including humans 

Geography:  The continent of North America with a focus upon the region of Niagara Falls

Design Technology:  Structures - we will be designing and building bridges

Computing:  Code Breakers - binary codes, QR codes.  

Our homework for this half term is:

 Maths:

Continue in the use of the prodigy app, practise your times tables

English:

Reading books - children need to continue to read widely and for their enjoyment.  

Weekly spellings in your spelling journal, practise the year 5 and 6 spellings

Children will be given their Thursday Big Write on a Monday morning.  They will be writing a Newspaper Report and Quest Stories.

 

PE

Year 5 PE is timetabled on:  Thursday

Please ensure your child's PE kit is in school on the above day.

PE kit is white t-shirt, black shorts and pumps / trainers.  During the winter, children may wear black or blue jogging bottoms.
